Taihu Lake, a living Three Kingdoms film set and the home of purple-clay teapots.
Wuxi sits on the northern shore of Taihu, one of China’s largest freshwater lakes. For centuries it was a rich canal city of silk, rice and merchants — and its lakeshore is still one of the most beautiful landscapes in Jiangnan.
Today Wuxi is best known for the Three Kingdoms City, a vast film set built for the classic TV series, where warships sail on Taihu and cavalry battles are re-enacted daily. Nearby Yixing has made the famous purple-clay (zisha) teapots for 500 years.
High-speed trains from Shanghai Hongqiao reach Wuxi in about 30–45 minutes, and Suzhou is only 15 minutes away. On our tours we travel by private coach between Suzhou, Wuxi and the water towns.
